One of the reasons Chris and I decided to move to Portland is the amazing food culture. There is such an abundance of local food and even some of the supermarkets are down with the regional and organic movement. Portland also happens to be an amazing drinking town - from Portland Roasting coffee, which we savor every morning, to lovely Columbia Gorge Pinot Noirs to the incredible selection of microbrews.
So when it came time to choose beer for our pie recipes, we undertook a highly scientific study of the local breweries. Meaning we had a reason to go to happy hour all over town and write it off as a business expense!

Recently we sat down for a few (uh, like 10?) pints with Chad Kennedy, Head Brewer for Laurelwood Brewing Co. Chad's wacky sense of humor and Laurelwood's commitment to local and organic produce won us over, so we will now be featuring Laurelwood Space Stout in our super-popular Beef & Stout Pie. The rich coffee and chocolate notes in the Space Stout really make for a delicious pie. We are also working on some other beer inspired recipes so stay tuned!

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Will have to try that one next time. Your pies are the best and most satisfying I have ever tasted, including back in Australia! The light fluffy pastry through to the quality produce inside honestly leaves for dead anything else. I need another cooler to load up for the next trip back, thanks guys!!
I just ran across your website through the Portland Footy Website...we used live for the Chicken Satay pies at Collaroy pies in the Northern beaches of Sydney,
We moved to Portland for many of the same reasons as you...(I'm American, My husband is from Victoria - AUS, not BC).
I can hardly wait to taste your pies....it will save a plane fare to get our hit! I hope you will have food at the Grand Final on Friday! Almost as good as being at the MCG (except I bet your pies are better) PNW beer and real Aussie pies... a match made in heaven! : )
Cheers, Debbie
I can wholeheartedly vouch for the deliciousness of the beef & stout pie. Rich and unctious, with a slight tang to offset the meat and roasted veggies...I'd eat this stew over my own, and I make a damn fine beef stew. All wrapped in your golden, buttery crusts? That just ramps things up to some crazy level of comfort food.
Having had a bite of dad's pie a few weeks earlier, I hauled myself down to the Milwaukie farmer's market just to get another fix. Look forward to finding you guys throughout the winter somewhere.....

I had one of your delicious beef and stout pies at the 10/31 Beaverton Saturday market and it was delicious. The crust was fantastic and the quality of the beef was outstanding! It was the best meat pie I have ever had!
Tough Job!
